Looking for a tablet? Consider these facts first

The tablet wars are heating up. Lots of computer owners are considering, for the first time, whether they really need a computer or if a tablet is enough.

The same owners are also considering whether the tablet should just be their second screen. Neither option is right or wrong. It just depends on how you use computing devices.

That being said, there’s so much going on in the tablet space right now that, if you’re looking to buy a tablet, you may want to hold off and consider some facts (and some speculation) before making a decision.

Let’s break this down by the Big Three in the tablet space: Amazon, Apple and Google.

Amazon

Their 7″ Kindle Fire was a hit. So much so that the rumor is they’ve a 10″ tablet in the works. There’s also rumor that an Amazon smartphone is in the cards and could rock a 5″ screen (which is massive, even by phablet standards.) A phablet is a phone/tablet hybrid, much like the Samsung Galaxy Note.

Apple

Not content with the 10″ tablet market, rumor is that Apple has a 7.85″ iPad in the works for release this year. The iPad is the clear frontrunner in the tablet wars and a model more tailored for users who mainly read ebooks will be a smash hit, no doubt.

Google

The Nexus 7 is just now shipping for those who preordered during Google’s I/O 2012 conference and many could say that Amazon’s foray into a larger tablet market and Apple’s foray into the smaller tablet market are direct reactions to the Nexus 7.

But who wins in all of this?

Easy. You do. The consumer. You’re going to have lots of options with prices as good as they’ve ever been.

Maybe your next question is: “OK, but which one is right for me?” This might be easier to answer than you think. Here’s our recommendations:

Already own an iPhone? Go Apple.

Already own an Android phone? Go Google.

Already own an Android phone and you have a huge Kindle collection? Go Amazon but any of the three should work fine for you. At this point it’s pure preference.

Still not sure what to do? That’s OK. Let us know and we’ll be happy to help you pick out the right tablet for you.
